Pregnenolone What You Need To Know
Beth Ley Knotts, Ph.D. (Nutritionist)

NATURAL AGE REVERSAL!!!

Pregnenolone, also known as P5, is a steroid hormone produced in the adrenal glands. It is often referred to as an anti-aging hormone or the mother hormone.
In the body, pregnenolone is used to make all steroid hormones. It is the precursor of the progestogens, mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, androgens (like testosterone), and estrogens, as well as the neuroactive steroids.
In addition, pregnenolone is biologically active in its own right, acting as a neurosteroid, making it helpful for depression, improved cognitive and memory functioning, alzheimer’s, schizophrenia and bipolar disorders.
Supplemental pregnenolone is usually made from Dioscorea yams, but can be make from other substances.

Pregnenolone USES/BENEFITS:

Reduce Stress (lowers cortisol)

Reduce Depression

Improve Memory and Energy Levels

Anti-inflammatory Agent helpful for arthritis, lupus, inflammatory gout and other inflammatory conditions.

Hormone Balancer: Precursor to testosterone, cortisone, progesterone, estrogens, dehydroepiandrosteron (DHEA) - AS they are NEEDED in the body.

Anti-aging Health / Menopause / Natural hormone replacement

Improve PMS and other problems associated with low progesterone. Women use pregnenolone for lumpy breasts (Fibrocystic breast disease), and Endometriosis, a disorder of the lining of the uterus. (However, not to be used with PCOS.)

Dosages:
Proper dosage is key for optimal results with no side effects. Always start at the lowest possible dose and slowly increase to find your optimal dosage. This dosage may need to be eventually lowered as your body has been given time to heal. For most individuals under age 40: 25 to 50 mg daily. Over age 40, usually 50 to 200 mg daily, depending on health concerns.
Individuals with MS, Bipolar, Schizophrenia up to 300 mg daily. (Gradually increase to needed dosage).
Individuals with Adrenal Exhaustion may require up to 600 mg daily until adrenals are strengthened. Then dosages should be slowly reduced to a maintenance dose of 50 to 200 mg daily.

Side Effects:
Although pregnenolone is a "natural" product, it is not necessarily free of side effects. Pregnenolone taken in excessive amounts can cause problems such as acne, insomnia, headaches, heart palpitations and hair loss. If you experience any possible side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Younger females are most likely to experience side effects if the dosage is too high or pregnenolone is not needed. Overall, pregnenolone has an extremely low order of toxicity.

Precautions:
Pregnenolone should be avoided by children, pregnant women and nursing mothers. Do not use if you suffer from seizure disorders, as pregnenolone can suppress GABA activity, which may lead to seizures in those with epilepsy.
Men with prostate cancer, or high PSA levels (which may be worsened by testosterone) and women with breast or ovarian cancer (which may be worsened by estrogen) should only take pregnenolone with their doctor’s consent and supervision.

Pregnenolone converts into DHEA in the body so should not be used if you are already taking DHEA. Pregnenolone tends to have fewer side effects than DHEA so I recommend it over DHEA, especially for women. Pregnenolone is often effectively used with adaptogens and hormone balancers such as MACA.
